MRCP (UK) Eligibility
It is a requirement for the MRCP(UK) full diploma or equivalent to be attained by 7th August 2013. For subsequent rounds, the date by which the full qualifying exam must be obtained will be specified on the advert for the vacancy.
Please see below for further information on the MRCP(UK) and the equivalent qualifications:
MRCP(UK)
If not using an alternative/equivalent examination, you must have MRCP(UK) Part 1 at the time of application to be eligible to apply.
Part 2 & PACES
Candidates must have gained the full MRCP(UK) diploma (all three parts of the examination must be passed) before the date on which the post will begin.
Due to the examination dates, some candidates who have yet to gain full MRCP (UK) membership will progress through the process provided they have booked their Part 2 and PACES examinations at the time of application. Proof of examination booking will be required.
Any offer made to a candidate in this situation, who is awaiting the outcome of MRCP (UK) examinations, will be under the condition that they will have gained the full MRCP (UK) diploma. If the candidate subsequently fails the examinations, they would be ineligible to take up the post.
Equivalent MRCP (UK) Qualifications
A candidate may not have the full MRCP (UK) diploma but their application may progress if they have an acceptable equivalent qualification. The conference of postgraduate medical deaneries (COPMeD) produced some revised guidance on how the equivalence to MRCP(UK) of alternative postgraduate medical examinations will be judged - as below:
'The only examinations that should be treated as equivalent to MRCP(UK) for ST3 recruitment purposes are:
- MRCP(Ireland)
- MHKCP (Hong Kong)*
- MMed Singapore*
- a European (EEA) CCT in general internal medicine can also be considered equivalent.
*The Hong Kong and Singapore colleges require full MRCP(UK).
No evidence [is available] to enable [deanery recruiters] to consider any other examinations to be equivalent, and MRCP(UK) is an international examination that is open to all.
